This Privacy Policy explains what information Cited (“Cited,” “we,” “us”) collects when you use our service at www.citedai.app, and how we use, share, and protect it.

Cited is currently operated by an individual, not a registered company.

1. Information we collect

Account information. When you sign up, we collect your email address, password (stored hashed, never in plain text), and any name or profile details you provide.

Business information. To run AI visibility checks, we collect the business details you provide: business name, city, category, website, and any questions you generate or edit. This information is used to run checks and is also sent to third-party AI providers as described in Section 3.

Contact form submissions. If you submit our contact form, we collect whatever you enter (name, email, message) to respond to your inquiry.

Site analytics. We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use our site — for example, which pages are visited and general traffic patterns. Google may set cookies and collect information such as your IP address and browser information as part of this service. See Google's Privacy Policy for details on how Google collects and processes this data.

Usage data. We log activity like check runs, questions generated, and reports viewed, to operate and improve the service.

We do not knowingly collect information from children, and Cited is not directed at children.

2. How we use your information

We use the information above to:

Operate your account and the business dashboards you set up
Run AI visibility checks and generate reports, insights, and recommendations
Respond to contact-form inquiries
Send you operational emails (e.g., re-run reminders, team invites) — see Section 5
Monitor, secure, and improve the service
Investigate and prevent misuse, fraud, or violations of our Terms of Service
Comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information.

3. Third parties we share data with

Running Cited requires sending some data to service providers who help us operate the product. We use:

Perplexity AI, Google (Gemini), and OpenAI (ChatGPT) — to run your visibility checks, we send the questions and business context needed to query these AI search engines. Their responses (including which sources they cite) are what populates your dashboard.
Anthropic (Claude) — to generate questions, parse AI responses, and produce diagnostic insights and executive summaries in your dashboard.
Payment processing (Lemon Squeezy) — Lemon Squeezy acts as the merchant of record for all paid plan transactions. When you subscribe to a paid plan, your payment information is collected and processed directly by Lemon Squeezy; Cited does not receive or store your payment card details. Lemon Squeezy's own privacy policy governs how they handle your payment data.
Email delivery provider — to send account and operational emails.

We do not share your information with third parties for their own marketing purposes, and we do not sell it.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to protect our legal rights, or to protect the safety of our users or the public.

4. Data retention

We retain your account and business data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable period, except where we're required to retain it for legal, security, or legitimate business reasons (e.g., financial records for tax compliance).

We may retain records related to a suspected violation of our Terms of Service (Acceptable Use) for as long as reasonably necessary to investigate and address it.

5. Your choices

You can access, correct, or delete your account information from your profile settings, or by contacting us.
You can opt out of non-essential emails (reminders, product updates) at any time; we may still send essential account/security emails.
If applicable data protection law gives you additional rights (such as data portability, or the right to object to certain processing), contact us and we'll accommodate what applies to you.

6. Cookies

We use cookies and similar technologies necessary for the service to function (e.g., keeping you logged in) and, where enabled, to understand site usage. We do not use cookies for third-party advertising.

7. Security

We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including hashed passwords and access controls. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

8. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Cited evolves. We'll update the “Last updated” date above, and for material changes, we'll make reasonable efforts to notify you (e.g., by email or an in-app notice).
